jack plate problems

I have been having problems with chine walk, and steering torque since I picked up the boat 2 years ago. Have adjusted the motor up and down, can't seem to
figure it out. Noticed my jack plate was installed at an angle 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch from one side to the other, thus tilting the motor slightly to one side.
What is the fix? Does the jack plate have to be re-installed. What are my options. Thanks for any help. Jim

As confusing as this sounds, we don't think that your plate is crooked. There were a few plates back then that were machined in different tolerances from
side to side, though the actual plates are level in relationship to the bolt holes. Which the engine mounts to as the plate mounts to the boat. The only thing
we would concern ourselves with is finding the right steering torque and height to get it.
We know this does not answer your question, though it was extremely hard to...

My classic is an 05, the one thing that bothers me, is when I brought the jack plate down to level plane with the base, it is perfectly level on the right hand
side of the plate, but it is 1/4 inch or more lower on the left side of the plate. Is that in normal tolerance?

I bet most of it is in your prop. Some walking may be little experience driving at wot. Get someone to help you with both issues and leave the jack plate
where there is good water pressure and little torque a wide open throttle.

hull and not the transom.

It may not be crooked, and we doubt it is as some plates were (are) manufactured actually out on the tops back a couple years ago. The center line is in as is
the motor in those we have seen. And we cross measured several back then to verify the offset. Plus from experience those that are twisted have no effect on
chine walk. This is just a kearnjbg curve and raise the plate to where you have only a moderate amount of steering wheel torque. We have set engines as much as
four inches out if...
