Posts: 8 (06/23/08 02:34) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None We guys, just weathered the Skeeter Tournament on lake Fork and to say the least many of those owners need to learn how to drive a boat and learn some proper fishing manner's among some other things. Was cut off twice and the last straw was having some idiot on plane come over our fishing lines while fishing about 30 yards off a bank line, I yelled and he gave me the bird, just like bass Cats says's " Feel the Rush" well I did and thank goodness for the speed of my cat as I was able to pull along side and stop and have a good chat with him.( that's all I'll say about that). Then to add insult to injury I couldn't put my boat in my rental shed as some other idiot can't read " No Parking Private Property " He had his truck & boat positioned so I couldn't back into the stall. It's the idiots that make it bad for the decent contestants and whats sad I heard a lot of complaints from other weekend fishermen and guides as well.

He was fishing a flat a couple of miles upstream from the beeswax creek area, we (the spectators) were staying back (at least most of us were) far enough to not disturb him or any fish. We were on the east side of the river where it is shallow (the channel hugs the left side, there is a riprap bank over there and a huge slew with many houses if you know the area). Some moron comes screaming up the river hugging the _right_ bank, where it is no more than 2' deep with some big rocks scattered around. He ran between Larry and the bank (nixon was maybe 30-40' off the bank) at a speed of around 70, do not know if he cut his line or not, but it certainly scattered any fish. And he kept right on going. Some of the camera crews were on the downstream side of Larry and they were waving frantically to get the idiot to move over to the channel side. No avail. A few years earlier, Rick Clunn was fishing the classic on Lake Logan Martin. He had found an unknown boulder near a major creek, and found that if he bounced a crankbait off the thing, he would catch a fish every single cast. I watched him pull in 10-15 (most were too small, but he pulled a couple of good ones out and one that was pretty heavy). while he was fishing within 30' of this rock, casting beyond it in a wide-open lake some guy comes running by in a big pontoon boat, right over the rock where he was fishing, coming within 15' of his boat, all at wide-open speed. Never looked back either. Later tournaments had marine police out doing a better job of watching for morons...

I had 4 different people cut between me and the bank Sunday at Cedar Creek. I am not sure what the right thing to do is because I think some people are ignorant to what they are doing and others just don't care. Sometimes I want to say something but I also don't want the confrontation, I am suppose to be having fun. Sorry about that tx. Judd Lasiter

He always kept a spinning rod with a topwater tied on with as heavy line that he could cast easily and when a JA did him that way ,he would cast across the boats path and wait ,as the boat got over that line ,he simply raised the rod up and opened the bail. The prop would catch the line and run most of the line off the reel, then bog down and come to a halt. One time he even went over and cut his bait off and said "have a good day" as he motored off. It didn't take long for all those ski daddys to avoid his boat whenever they saw it. Maybe we all should take this approach!!! SAM !!!!!! Last Edited By: SAMRUSH 06/25/08 06:58. Edited 1 times.

The Skeeter T. We were fishing a submerged hump when two guys pulled up a Cougar FTD length ahead of the bow of our boat and started fishing the same area. We said "EXCUSE ME! We are fishing here." They ignored us. They started casting over our lines. I calmly asked them if they were fishing in a tournament, and they responded "Yea, the Skeeter tournament. You guys don't even need to be out here in that boat." Of course, I am in the back of the boat but my brother is furious and ready to go after them. I tip the scales at a svelt 300+ lbs, and he has kicked my tail a couple of times. I knew if he was that angry I was going to have to watch his back. After about 5 more minutes(4 to calm him down,1 to think of a plan), I politely informed them that they had not read all of their rules. We had their boat #, and a description and would proceed to the weigh in site with a written protest to officially get them disqualified for unsportsmanlike behavior toward a non tournament boat. Needless to say, we were not much more than a boat length away when we showed what a 250XS holeshot looked like. That was the one and only time we ever got that frustrated. It is just not worth the time and getting too dangerous to say anything for fear of a concealed weapon. I think that too many boaters, not just fishermen, go out and buy these toys without understanding the unwritten rules of respect. In this instant I felt compelled to run this boater down because he was acting and driving crazy and I was afraid he would really hurt someone. We had an adult conversation and to make a long story short we resolved the problem, in fact he told me he had two bad experiences himself that day, Go Figure! I guess the bigger the tournament gets the more problems we have. I know the promoters of the affair want everyone to have a good and safe time but people do crazy things. I bet we all have some horror stories we can share. My friend knows one of the promoters real well and he is going to suggest that maybe the officials have a mandatory seminar that each contestant attend and go over safe boating and to display good sportsmanship while on the lake. I understand you may live near me , I live in Rockwall and would like to wet a line with you sometime..

My buddy and I just looked at one another and said well it takes all kinds ! As for the comment about the conceled weapon , I am licensed to carry and usually do , most LAW abiding ppl would never even think about doing something like that, To me it wouldnt be worth losing my right to carry over something that you can control ..

I agree MOST law abiding people wouldn't. However, first impressions say a lot in this day and age. An idiot that carelessly cuts in front or across your lines, then ignores your questioning or comments, in ANY tournament or fishing situation, shows not only a lack of respect but a lack of class. 1.Always make a point to go around the opposite side of the boat that the anglers are fishing. 2.In a narrow area where boats are located, SHUT DOWN to idle speed before you reach the people fishing there. Both parties will feel better. Accelerate ONLY after the fishing boats are well behind, say 25 -30 yards. No one wants boat wakes crashing over the front in a narrow channel or tight fishing area. 3.Never cut across fishing lines, even a bank fisherman's line. He is enjoying his time off just as much as the next guy. GIVE PEOPLE ROOM! 4.If a boat has reached a spot first, wait your turn. Do not crowd the first boat. Be ready to catch what they can't. 5.In open water, still give fishermen a wide berth. Don't try to cut across points too close that guys/gals are fishing. It is called respect. These are just some of the basic principles that I grew up with from my Dad. I am passing these down to my son. They're really not building a lot of new lakes now and recreational users are growing, so it is getting crowded. Mainly, people need to use common sense. I am off of my soap box now. No charge for the "common courtesy 101" course. Certificate of completion available if anybody actually reads and follows these basic steps.

I fish Lake of the Ozarks and have had wakerunner do circles around me. Have had people in 40 ft boats come with in a boat lenth of me. The waverunners are easy to take care of with a little casting contest (who can get the closest with out hitting the F-in Tourist) the 40 ft you just turn on the bilge and give them a nice one finger wave.

He had two approaches he used to use when fishing off the MS coast. For the jet-ski crowd that likes to come running by up close and make the sharp turns that throw water into your boat, he kept an 8' surf rod rigged up with a huge musky topwater lure. He'd lob it across the jet-ski and flip the bail and they _had_ to stop before they got hooked with a gang of really big trebles. He'd tell them that the next time it happened, he would hook 'em, land 'em, then beat the he out of them. That usually cured it. For the boaters that like to come by close, repeatedly, he had a similar rig bith with a long stainless steel leader. He'd cast it across the path of the boat and keep the rod up high. The motor would grab that leader, and it would be propshaft seal time before they were going to move again... Tough to resort to such drastic measures, I agree, but remember one proverb... for every person on the planet, there is exactly one ahole as well.
