That sucks!
Some pros (like Alton Jones) were pretty vocal about not liking co-anglers. Alton will like you know as soon as you step in his boat that he don't like you there. I'm sure there are others.
Davy Hite a super great guy to fish with.

So how they going to keep them honest? Who wants to be an observer when the weather is bad.

Who cares? That is a B.A.S.S. problem! Some that aren't winning will always have a complaint. Doesn't seem to be affecting KVD! Maybe it is though. Instead of KVD cashing a check in all the tournaments, maybe he'll win them all now!

I think if they have observers only, BASS/ESPN is going to have to figure out something for the back of the boat. I don't think they'll be able to keep charging an observer an "entry" or "observer" fee at the present price. Hard to justify sitting in back of the boat for 8 hrs with someone that doesn't like co anglers or observers.
For some of those back enders, that is a couple of local tournament entry fees with less travel/expenses.
I know that it can be educational, but there is something about keeping the sport fan friendly, getting to cast out of the same boat as a touring pro.
They could do like UMF..."over the line!". Or strictly behind the boat.
It definitely is a BASS/ESPN problem..........

Most of these co angler guys or girls are hard core anglers that support all the products these pro's represent. Sounds like they are cutting off the hand that feeds a good part of them. Might backfire on them.

In my opinion (and I know we all have one) in order to make our sport a true professional sport the pro's have to fish against each other without distractions. As much as I would love to one time line up next to Marvin Harrison and get a pass from Peyton I know they are professionals and I have no business out there with those guys. To take this sport to the next level this was a necessary step. I also feel like the boys getting to run their own rigs all days was another key piece of this equation.

I know that there have been tournaments that the co anglers have helped the pros or hindered the pros and now that isn't going to be a piece of this. My hats off to ESPN/BASS.

If the co's are dying to fish with a pro then they can fish as a co in the Open's that provides and avenue for this.

PS - I have boycotted BASS for the last couple of years over some of their decisions I didn't want to support. I will now re join, that in my opinion is the only voice I had that was heard and paid attention too.

Judd, I agree with you on two points.
1. You are faster than me, so I will stay and block for that QB to throw the pass to you

2. I boycotted BASS for 3 yrs regarding some things I had issues with. I actually emailed them 3 letters over the 3 years, explaining my position of what I felt was a problem. The first letter explained why I was not renewing (after 20+ years!

). The second letter was to let them know I was monitoring the magazine and may rejoin if they showed continued improvement. The final letter was another " I am following your progress".
I rejoined last year as a "trial basis" for me. I feel that as a member, each one has a right to make your voice heard. And this had nothing to do with tournaments................

Also, I think BASS to a lot of heat for all the huge fish that died on Falcon. I think the kill rate was like 20%. Anyway, much lets than the gill nets on the other side. Heard a 14 lbs got taken out by one a few weeks back.

Heading down to Falcon with the crew from Austin in a couple weeks. Will fill you all in with the details.

Judd, I couldn't agree with you more!

These guys are professionals and fishing for their livelihood. Perhaps early spring when they are tight and flippin'/ pitchin' it may be one thing, but how do you think they feel when pulling up to a deep hump knowing that their co may throw a C-Rig, big worm, jig, etc., and catch the big bass of the tournament?

As a boater in BFL, Basmaster Weekend Series, etc. tournaments, I always dread deep fishing for that exact reason. And to top it off, I have had anglers that I put on deep water fish do well, then get all cocky and in the end, not even offer help with gas money.

So I truly think the Elite Series anglers deserve to have their own boats to themselves. There are plenty of other avenues for the rest of us.

I can see both sides of the argument for/against co-anglers. BUT, there are always going to be other things that they can complain about and say that ruined a tournament for them. Local anglers "getting in the way", locals fishing my water when I leave, too many boats following messed up my water, boats cut across my fishing area, etc. Could anyone explain to me how KVD has consistantly stayed at the top with co-anglers in the boat and a ridiculous amount of people following him? It's like PA said, I guess KVD will win them ALL now.
