2013 Bass Cat Owners Invitational, Hosted by the Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce and the Jasper County Development District.
The event will the held on Lake Sam Rayburn, headquartered at Rayburn Country and Jasper, Texas, April 4 and 5, 2013, Thursday and Friday.
The 26th Bass Cat Owners Invitational takes on a new twist as the event will move from it's historical location of Lake Norfork, and Mountain Home, to the state of Texas. Lake Sam Rayburn is the heart of tournament bass fishing a Kingdom in the sport. Historical events surround the reservoirs of Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn going back before the organization of BASS. Now the Bass Cat Owners will experience that reservoir, many for the first time. Texas has long been a exceptionally strong market for Bass Cat and the largest single selling state for bass boats by far. The large number of Bass Cat models from Beaumont to Dallas, or Texarkana to Austin, should really pop the participation at Sam Rayburn. Those in the Ozark area are within a drive of 8 to 9 hours from Mountain Home. Little Rock and areas south will be easily within a comfortable driving distance. Motels are plentiful and Rayburn Country as well as Bass Buster Motel are the closest accommodations. Twin Dikes Marina also has a limited amount of cabins and the USACofE park there at Twin Dikes is an excellent camping facility. There is also a nice Corp park directly across the reservoir. The area will host the families really well with good access to activities.
The decision for a Thursday and Friday event was determined after an on line poll of Bass Cat Owners on the Bass Cat Owners Board. The poll revealed that an averaged 63% of those polled preferred the event to be a mid week event. While this amount surprised those at Bass Cat, it definitely will allow travel time on the week after Easter and time to arrive home to work the following week. The dates will allow some some participants to coordinate Spring Break into the event.
The Jasper area is a forward thinking community which wraps it's arms around bass events and is home to Sealy Outdoors and the famed "The Stump" restaurant. Tackle stores are plentiful and they focus on bass fishing as their primary income. Many nationally recognized anglers cut their teeth on Lake Sam Rayburn and those like Shaw Grigsby, Rick C., Larry N., Tommy M. and others can place Sam Rayburn as a major part of their fishing success. As for the weather in April we can definitely see some winds and rain. There are contingency plans in going in place for those conditions should we see high winds and in-climate weather.
Set your GPS on Texas and we will let everyone know when the details and activities are final!
