For Phil or BCB or any of us to chime in on this you need to list the year, model and hp of your Outboard... im assuming its an opti of some sort

If it is a ProXS then yes if it is a straight Opti then no you want the Opti oil.

Judd's got it nailed--DFI oil only in the regular Opti's | ||
|
The ProXS engines are designed for and should be run with the Premium Plus Mercury oils. The DFI oil is for the standard Optimax engines.

I saw some quicksilver oil at wally world this weekend. I don't think it was premium plus and it definately wasn't opti oil. It said on the bottle safe
for DFI engines. $22.00/ GAL. I didn't get any as I have always run OPTI-OIL in my 2000 optimax. But I thought about gettn some. Sorry I can't remember
the name. Heck now that I think about it, I can't remember MY name.

Sorry BCC...you would be surprised how many people I have spoke to and asked if it was ok to run QS in a Merc or use it instead of Merc oil.

...don't know that red label Mercury oil and silver label Quicksilver oil is the same product, if it is labeled "Premium Plus", which is the oil
of choice for XS Mercs. I ran into this twice in the last month at Bass Pro-Memphis. Even some of the store staff was misinformed.
Quicksilver is a labeling used for retailers like BPS, Cabelas, etc. Same product.

We have a 2008 200 Optimax and around here all the shops are saying to run Prem Plus in them and they all cleared out the OPTI oil and are only selling Prem
Plus oil now. If you look in your manual for your motor it will tell what oil you can use in the motor.

Local Merc shop here told me the same thing last month. He still says Opti oil, but he says all Opti's come from Merc with Premium Plus in the oil tank,
not Opti oil, so why should I think I need Opti oil? Of course, he didn't sell me my boat and motor, but would probably like to be the one to work on it,
but I don't know what to think. I'm sure Merc won't say, because if they said use Opti before, and now Premium is OK, they would have a little egg
on their face. Also, if someones Opti happened to blow after switching from Opti oil to PP, I'm sure that person may take a long look at blaming the oil
and Merc for telling them to switch.
Don't know what to think, sure wish we could get a straight answer. Would love to save $10 a gallon if it were safe for my motor. |

From everything I have heard and read Opti is the recommended oil for the regular Opti's. Prem Plus can be ran in a pitch but Opti oil is the preferred
oil.
Now for the ProXS and XS motors they are Prem Plus. That is all per Merc's recommendations in the owners manuals. JL |

OK, after reading this thread I am getting confused (sometimes easy to do) ...
My Merc is a 06 200 opti. Here is what my manual says on recommended oil.. "TC-W3 Premium Plus or Optimax 2 Cycle Outboard Oil" When I purchased the boat, I was told to only use the DFI oil. |

Here is what the 2008 Manual says for the 200 Opti
"Mercury Optimax/DFI or Quicksilver DFI 2-Cycle oil is recommended for your engine. If Mercury Optimax/DFI or Quicksilver DFI 2-Cycle oil is not available, we recommend using Mercury or Quicksilver TC-W3 Premium Plus Outboard Oil." So with Optimax/DFI oil not being available in my area, my manual states that it is ok to use Premium Plus oil and there is no harm in using it. |

I have been using Power Mist Oil for a couple years now. Seems to work great for me. I have been buying 55 gallon drums of it!
