The engine is a little high on the jack plate for this setup . We have never seen one perform well at this height. Yours would be the first.

I'm running a 27 tempest gps 72-73 22lbs water pressure and handles well only turning 5500 rpm tried 26 tempest rpms come up but speed not much
difference. Little hard to steer trimmed out what you recommend?

The engine is too high and you are loosing performance, thus the tight steering on top. The steering torque is from surfacing propeller blade, which is
slippage that causes that. Thus inefficiency and you could do better in some cases.

How low do i need to go? Went down before but got alot of bow lift and chine walk

The chine walk is you learning to drive, the lift is due to hooking the propeller up which is the goal.

I dont have any problem driving one, if it is set up right u dont have to drive it , mine handles and runs great just a little steering tourque!

wish2fish71,
Please don't take this wrong, though if you have chine walk that you can not manage, then you have some skill level yet to achieve. Whether or not you realize it, the boats can be driven, unless the engine is entirely too low, and that height would prevent your engine from trimming as it would be too low. Not just trailer, though actual trimming. The steering wheel torque should be just about 2 pounds or so with a load and all strung out. |

I have plenty experience in driving them all thats not the problem,i've tried lowering and it doesn't performe as well as it does right now. Just
thought you may know a simple suggestion for a little steering tourqe.

Motor is too high. Listen to what BCB is telling you. I have the same boat and motor. If its not chine walking then its not setup properly. That boat will
walk when it gets up and running good. Learning how to handle the boat when it starts walking is what BCB is talking about. I used to run a 27 Tempest that
had been balanced and blue printed and could see 75+ and yes the boat will walk with me ususally when I get around 70. I also have no steering torque when I
am running WOT.

BassCats thoughts on Chinewalking | ||
|
I agree with the comments that you have to drive through chine walk to actualize the best performance at WOT. However at OI I was told by an individual that if
a boat is setup correctly you should not experience any chinewalk for top WOT performance. In spirit of good felllowship I accepted his comments. However my
gut tells me this is not been the case in my boating experience. The conventional wisdom I have come to learn from other more experience boaters plus my time
behind the wheel chinewalk is part of the high performance process with boats like BassCat. I would like to know what BassCat's thoughts are on
chinewalking. Is chinewalking part of the driving experience to get to top WOT speeds?
This is a good topic. Keep the posts coming. misr12

Yes, and Ivan or Rick can probably either one drive your rigs without a flinch. Though you should not gamble on that. Chine walk is a matter of learning to
control the propeller oscillation. If your rig has wheel torque, it can compensate for that oscillation, though it will be slower due to the slippage that
caused that wheel torque.

I'm not disagreeing with bass cat guys but if i can raise my motor and ride not drive and receive the same performance lets ride. I wanted to know how low
to start with ? I'll try anything just trying to take some of the guess work out to begin with.

It is not going to achieve the same performance. You are just able to drive it harder.
On a Slidemaster, try putting the plate about level between the inside and outside. On a CMC try about 1/4" of air in the slot between the plates. What year model? |

07 slidemaster iset it about 1/4" above flush to try 2morrow if it will quit raining long enough.

You should be very close if that is where you are. It could go either direction from that setting depending on your rig.

What kind of results did you get from lowering the plate? I have mine currently set at 2 3/4" below the pad and I am getting the best speeds out of the
boat with a bit of steering torque. I might drop it down a 1/4" at the most for the better rough water ride but I don't want to give up the speed.

I ran it at 1/4 above flush helped steering tourque, about half as bad as it was but lost about 1.5 mph top end. I like less tourque gonna try a fury at this height and see if i can get my speed back.
